Kenya’s Digital Lenders Are Trying to Pull Up the Ladder. Don’t Let Them

The FINTAK article [“Kenya’s Digital Lenders Are Trying to Pull Up the Ladder. Don’t Let Them”](https://fintechassociation.africa/blog/kenyas-digital-lenders-are-trying-to-pull-up-the-ladder-dont-let-them), published on 23 August 2025, incorrectly described KSh20 million as the capital floor under Kenya’s 2022 Digital Credit Providers Regulations and KSh50 million as a proposed blanket minimum for market entry. The enacted 2022 regulations contain no numerical capital floor. KSh20 million appears in the Central Bank of Kenya’s August 2025 draft regulations as the boundary between registration and full licensing. KSh50 million was an industry proposal to move that boundary; it has not been enacted. We have rebuilt this analysis from the primary record.
