Standing policy
The Editorial Independence Charter
Precursor is published by the FinTech Association of Kenya. This page states what that does and does not mean, in terms a reader, a member and an advertiser can each hold us to.
Who publishes Precursor
Precursor is published by the FinTech Association of Kenya. The Association funds the title and appoints the editor. It does not approve, review or veto individual articles before publication.
Membership buys no coverage
Membership of the Association confers no editorial advantage. Members are reported on, questioned and criticised on the same terms as non-members, and are given the same right of reply.
Commercial material is always labelled
Every item Precursor publishes carries exactly one of eight approved labels. Commercial material is labelled at the top of the page, on every card, and in every archive, never only in a footer.
Partners do not choose subjects
A partner may sponsor a franchise, a report or an event. A partner may not select the subject, approve the copy, or receive an article before it is published.
Association positions are labelled as such
Where the Association takes a policy position, it is published under the FINTAK Position label and written as advocacy. It is never presented as analysis.
Corrections are permanent and visible
Errors are corrected on the article, dated, and described. Corrected articles retain the correction notice permanently; they are not silently amended or removed.
Sources and documents
Where a story turns on a document, the document is named. Anonymity is granted for consequence, not convenience, and the reason is stated in the text.
How to hold us to this
Complaints go to the editor and are answered within ten working days. Unresolved complaints are escalated to the Association board with the outcome published on the corrections page.
The eight approved labels
Every item Precursor publishes carries exactly one. Nothing publishes without it.
