About Precursor

Precursor is a publication about African finance that begins its work before the outcome does. Rain is easy to report once the streets are wet; our interest is in the pressure that precedes it: the behaviour, infrastructure, policy, friction and power that make a result likely long before anyone announces one.

It is published by the FinTech Association of Kenya and edited independently under a written charter. It began as FINTAK Weekly, a members' newsletter; it is now a title with its own standards, its own labels and its own obligation to be read by people who disagree with the Association.

We publish analysis, first readings of draft law, long-form interviews from inside the rails, and a quarterly index. Everything carries one of eight labels, so a reader always knows who paid for what they are reading. Read the Charter →
